| I read that it is a good idea to uncheck the option for "Enable third party browser extensions" in the advanced tab of internet options. Supposedly it blocks some spyware. Any truth to this?
Thanks |

| vince,
Did you read what MS says about that control? Here's their explanation for what it does:
"Specifies that you want to disable features you installed for use with Internet Explorer that may have been created by companies other than Microsoft.
"If you encounter problems with Internet Explorer that you cannot resolve, you can use this option to help determine if third-party features are causing the problems without uninstalling the feature."
So, if, for instance, you installed a Google toolbar in IE, and then went and unchecked this control, according to MS, the Google toolbar would stop working.
The truth may be an entirely different matter. I'm just not certain that the control kills everything "third-party" that you have installed, and I'm not sure it ONLY affects "installed" things. It might interfere with the operation of some Web pages if it's UNchecked.
'Course, maybe that's what you WANT it to do.

| Example i had : turning off 3rd party extentions, made my ADShield stop working, aparentally it IS one of them
i think stopping activeX downloads from running (see this weeks ms lawsuit ) without a PROMPT is insane. at LEAST seeing that something is going to download is a little saner. you can adjust that in security for zones.
OK, so i am Guessing, but i try hard |
