| Ok...I count myself as one of the more lazy people using a computer! As Blaster got me Monday afternoon(it's gone now)
However, I want to rectify that situation. I have enabled Windows xp firewall, I have downloaded all patches from microsoft....Don't laugh or shake your head please, but, there were 26 critical patches for me...Yes, when I turn the computer on, I ignore the prompt for their download to install.
I do run live update, and have a current subscription, however. One point for me!!
With that said, My question is this...Should I acquire a 3rd party firewall or is the basic xp firewall ok for the internet. What are their differences...pluses or minuses.
Thanks!!!

| The XP Firewall is very good at preventing incoming threats. It does nothing to stop spyware from dialing out - but that's easy enough to protect against SpywareGuard or regular Spyware checks). It does not offer the comprehensive options or flexibility of 3rd party firewalls, but for just plain good protection it's fine.

| BTW - without the Windows Critical Updates I don't know that a firewall would have helped.

| If I do opt for a 3rd party firewall, do I switch xp firewall off? Or can I run both at the same time??
Thanks again!!

| You are better off not running 2 firewalls at the same time.

In actuality it is not that good of a firewall. Many exploits have been found for it.
