To get around the POP-UP AD blocker I have installed on my computer, many websites now send their "pop-up advertising" in the form of a query asking for permission to DOWNLOAD some file onto my computer.

It comes up as

-----------------------

Security Warning

Do you want to install and run .... (then at this point instead of it saying "Macromedia Flash" or something that makes sense... it says

Do you want to install and run CLASSMATES.COM Come over and visit our site and get lots of Spam and other annoying junk that you'd never want...

-----------------------

The above "Classmates" text... (or other spam pop up advertising text) shows as a hyperlink that you can click on.

Is there a way I can TURN OFF some option in my XP that will keep websites from even asking me if I want to download any POP-UP install files? I want the answer to the question to always be NO.

Where do I go in XP to disallow automated file download queries from websites?

Maybe if you use another Pop-up blocker (reccommend ADSGONE) - you wont have a problem like that - although sometimes when i use the OPERA browser i get the same problem as you.  But not with IE.

Im not sure if XP has such a feature enabled although im not 100% sure

Hi Questor - I assume you're running XP.  In that case:

1.  Run services.msc

2.  Scroll down the services to "Messenger."

3.  Disable this service.

Let us know if this helps!
