| I've been thinking about buying a new monitor lately. I know that certain CRT flat screen monitors have those thin gray lines on the screen (like the diamond tron and trinitron monitors) but which type of aperature grill won't have these lines? If you know a specific monitor that you would like to reccomend I'm looking for something about 19" with an optimal resolution of 1280x1024 that would be good for gaming. Also, if it's black that would be great, but that's just me being picky.

Logitech Z-680 Speakers

| the only reason i thought it was an issue for me is because i used to have a monitor with them and they were pretty visible... maybe i should look again. i guess i'm open for any suggestions before i go to the store and start trying them all out.

| All "trons" are the same so if you've seen one and are annoyed by the lines then don't bother checking another. I see them very well.
LG doesn't have them, but they have this "concave picture" which some people find annoying too. You'll get used to that eventually unless you work with different kinds of monitors.

| i got a IIyama , but i dont recommend it cause the first one croaked, but it was so flat i thought it looked convex for the first few days of working with it, flat is one thing, but they can be a LITTLE out :-) as long as it doent look like a Bubble , like some of the non-flat. not only did i get used to it, but its great, and it was cheap for having good resolution specs (pitch not res/refresh)
the other totally cool thing in this sucker here is one of them reflection fronts, like a more expencive glare filter, it was built right into the front of the monitor. you can tell these things are on the monitors because they reflect things strangly. like if you see the reflection of florescent lights in them in the store they will have a blue or purple cast to them. because long ago i have paid up to 70$ for a glare screen that used this kind of filtering (verses a cheap grey filter) i thought it was a good thing. another way to see that it has a primo glare filter on it, is they are harder to clean without getting colored streaks in them
OK, so i am Guessing, but i try hard |

| Not trying to put you down, PG, but for the record I'd like to mention that IIyama uses Diamondtron technology.

| could that be why it has them lines :-) right now i cant even spot where they are, but i bet if i put a blank white sheet up i could see them.

| here is a site that descibes the diff between a "shadow mask" and a "aperature grill" http://www.vnunet.com/Features/70568 scroll down to screen technologies. that might also explain why it is the most geometrically correct type (no bent areas) , and why its to darn bright, and needed to be turned down.
