| I just bought a new hard drive and i instaled windows xp on it. I thought I would be able to access my old files from the old hard drive, but it says I do not have permission to access the folder. I can access every other folder, but not my old "my documents"
Can anyone help me ? |

| You'll have to take ownership of the folders. Log on as Administrator (if you are running XP Home boot to safe mode). Open Folder Options and disable "simple file sharing"(Last option on the view tab). Next right click the drive or the folders you can't access in explorer > sharing and security > security > advanced > owner. Change the owner to your username and check "replace owner on subcontainers and objects". Last reenable simple file sharing again.
and Welcome at TweakXP forums.

| Open Control Panel > Folder Options > on the View tab under Advanced Settings scroll down to "Use simple file sharing (Recommended)" and remove the checkmark. Click Apply and OK.
Did you do that?
Thomas you are kind of right, for XP Home you don't need to uncheck "Use simple file sharing". The security tab is there automatically when booting into safe mode to an administrator account.
