I just got a 120GB Maxtor DiamondMAX 9+ and finished formatting my computer. Now since this is the first time i've tried this i cant firgure out what to do next. How do i format my second drive (the new maxtor) to NTFS without installing windows XP on it, since i already have it installed on my first hard drive. And since i just put it in without formatting it, the hard drive does not appear in MY COMPUTER, is it because windows doesn't see the harddrive as any format (NTFS,FAT32)??

you can do it from disk management. Right-click My Computer and select Manage. Then go to Disk Management. The drive should show up in there as all GREEN free space. Right click that drive and select format (you might have to create a partition first, I don't remember). After selecting format, you should be given the option to choose NTFS or FAT32.

thx for the help, but the color wasn't green it was black, i had to change the drive from basic to dynamic first too. At the beginning the drive was UNALLOCATED (i think). Now for the next question i was wondering how would i get everything from my first drive to the second one. My cousin wan't my old drive since he only has a 5GB harddrive.

as long as you are just moving files and not an OS system over, just copy them.
