I have not seen any messages posted here that relates to monitoring XP boot up performance, etcetera.  Frankly speaking, I have not seen anything that tells me what is the acceptable numbers of the bar runs when XP boot, the welcome screen, and so forth. I don't believe speed is really that important for the average users.  I hope the XP Gurus here at TweakXP will give this some serious thoughts and reach a consensus.  The consensus can then be used by anyone as an "early warning threshold" that alert us when something is about to go wrong right away or progressively over time, and when the need to do preventive maintenance is warranted.

Thanks!

It doesn't do any good to count bars.  Every PC can be loading different resources.  It depends on what software you installed, what you have changed in services and what policies are loading.

Boot speed is one one of the more commonly discussed topics here, but I've never understood why - unless it's taking a VERY long time. Who really sits and watched a PC boot? And if you do, why?

Relder and Allan - I agree with you but there were some members who recently used this forum to boast about how fast their toys boot up.  Other members who read the message would think "hey, mine's so slow there could be something wrong with MY TOY".  This is the reason why I thought we should make clear what is acceptable and what is just a matter of showing off (no offense intended to those with the fastest ones of all)

There is really no such thing as acceptable or not acceptable. As Rob said, each system is different. If people want to "brag" or complain about boot times that's their business - we once had a guy here brag about the length of the table his PC was on (guess we all need to feel proud about something ). Personally I only care about what my PC does once it's up and running.

Oh yeah?

Well my table is so long, you can't even see the end of it. It's just the bestest table there is.
