Hi

I know some of you guys frown upon changing the boot-up screen in Windows XP but i have a question.  If i use Boot Editor to change the screen i have the option of saving the color palette of the new screen so it'll look better on loadup.  My question is i know this is messing around with the kernel of the computer and if something were to go wrong, which i hope it doesnt, i'd be able to reinstall correct and it should be ok...except for the loss of data of course...

Formatting and reinstalling always fixes a multitude of personally induced problems! (LOL )

Not really sure what you're asking for here - accepting the loss of data into the equation, you can always fix OS failures (but the really big ones involve formats/reinstalls)!

Backup personal data and go experimenting - let us know how it goes!

Thanks canadaman, i mean dude

Thats what I figured, so am i right in assuming that the only way the computer can be completely rendered useless is a BIOS malfunction?

Oh and I can't experiment just yet it's my friends computer and he asked me to do it for him, and I wont get a chance till tuesday but if i'm cryin on then you'll know why lol

Correct - a botched BIOS update on all but the most modern PCs (and only a select few) will cause grief beyond 'mortal' recovery (you end up buying another BIOS chip from the manufacturer!) but so long as you're only messing with OS code on the hard-drive - and my first statement above applies!

I'm not sure if you're friend really knows what he's in for....().

Just back-up personal data (music, movies, images, e-mail, contact lists, etc.) or you might end up short one friend!

Thanks again,

And trust me i'll be backing up all data before i do this.  I'm not too worried b/c i did change the bootscreen on my computer once and it went off without a hitch, but just making sure

And i promise you guys i wont mess with his BIOS...unless of course i do wanna lose a friend
