| When I try to install the latest Zone Alarm (4.0.123.012), I immediately get an error message saying "GLBx.tmp [the number x increments each time] - Application Error. The instruction at "0x00401e08" referenced memory at "0x001e9000". The memory could not be 'written'." The only option is to terminate.
I've tried this with a unit that already has Zone Alarm, and one that doesn't. Same message.
Zone Alarm has no information on this on its site, and its user forum suggested deleting the .tmp files. Didn't help.
The GLBx.tmp files are in the Prefetch directory. I've stopped the Prefetch service (by stopping Task Scheduler), but that didn't work either.
I've also tried it with GoBack disabled. Nope. In Safe Mode. Nope. I did notice a strange program that wouldn't close properly named "SAMPLE" (but I can't find it using search and it doesn't show up in Task Manager).
Help!

| Hello David, Welcome to the Forum!
The latter part of your post speaks to 'spyware' at work in my opinion. Have you done a scan for adware/spyware lately? There could be a process running in the background that is interfering with your ZA install.
In the absolute worst case, a trojan or virus is causing the 'sample' thing to happen (that's way out there as another reason).
Ideas only to start the analysis of your problem. Others will jump in here!

| Welcome David.
That GLBx seems to be affiliated with Global Crossing. Do you know anything about them. ? http://www.globalcrossing.com/xml/index.xml
I agree that a Spyware scan is in order if you are not using any of their products. Follow the info here http://209.103.215.76/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=71&PN=1 and if still no joy please post back or go to http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ and download 'Hijack This!'. Unzip, double-click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log somewhere, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet. Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.
Cheers
