| | I've installed Plat 5.0 on a buddies computer (XP Home) but every time I try to run it it tells me ENGINE FAILED TO INITIALIZE. I've downloaded the patch for it and still no luck. I've tried everything, clean boot, registry, permissions and so but no luck. I finally had some luck by using a ENGFORCE.EXE patch someone told me about. When I install it the program works but if I close it out or restart the computer it once again tells me ENGINE FAILED TO INITIALIZE. Once i install the ENGFORCE.EXE agian it works fine until I close it out or restart. I'm logged on as administrator so I knwo its not a permissions problem. Is there any reason it would be losing the the Eng.Patch after shut down or program closure? Can someone please help me? I'm running XP PRO with 5.0Platinum with no problems. ALL OTHER BURNIGN SOFTWARE WAS REMOVED BEFORE INSTALLATION OF 5.0PLAT. |

| Make sure you get the latest update. Roxio 5 wont run on XP until you apply the upgrade patch. I would also recommend Nero. I have lost data on so many CDs that were written by Roxio. Good luck
Just re read,, you got the patch. Oops |

| | Thats cool but one problem... I live in Japan and I'm in the military so I don't have the best of choices here and don't have the time to wait on something ordered to get here. I need to fix my boy's stuff before I have to take off--if you know what i mean. I have dl'ed the patch and then ran the Eng.exe but it still loses the Eng.exe after each shut down or startup. Any advice? |

| This is a hardcore fix...
Put that ENGFORCE.EXE file somewhere in the Program Files folder or somewhere out of sight. Create a shortcut to it on the desktop: Send To -- Desktop (create shortcut), then move that shortcut to the Start Menu's Startup folder. This way, that utility will launch upon every reboot and you will no longer have Roxio failing to start.
I'd much rather have someone find out the REAL problem, though....

| It's been a while since I used version 5 of Roxio, but one thing you might want to try is open "My Computer", then right-click on your CD-Burner icon and select "Properties". Then under the Recording tab, de-select "Enable CD Recording ...". This should disable XP's built in burning engine. For some reason I seem to remember there being a conflict between Roxio and the built in XP burner. Hope that helps. If not, sorry, that's all I got.
Oh, and ... in my opinion, Roxio is just fine. It's always done a nice job for all my CD burning needs. And version 6 is even better. The reason version 5 had problems with XP was that it was designed before XP was released.
