just installed Google Toolbar and i really like it, since it comes with a build-in pop-up blocker, i finally got rid of third party pop-up blocking softwares, and unlike other toolbars, it survives ad-aware scan

But there is one tiny problem i still cant figure it out, how do u reset that pop-up blocker? i mean, it just keeps counting and telling you how many pop-ups it has blocked, is there a way to reset that number back to zero?

The only way to clear the counter at the moment (it's still in beta) is via the registry.

Locate this key using regedit:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\NavClient\1.1\Options

and set the value of 'KillPopupCount' to 0.

It survives ad-aware scans???  One reason to uninstall it manually.

This thing tracks your searches and sends them to the Google center.  Through the toolbar software, they also have the ability to place files on your hard drive, collect data and send that to Google.  Since you have permitted the Googlebar access to the Internet on your firewall, this program has an open field.  You may disagree with me but "the ability" is enough for me to say NO.  What it DOES collect is some personal data, which is stored on a huge server.  It just takes one hacker to break the code and all the data is widely available for spam companies and the likes, not to mention credit card frauders, etc. if more than your name and e-mail address were recorded.

I remember installing a copy of Ad-Aware some 6 months ago on someone's computer and it intercepted the Googlebar.  Strange that it doesn't do it anymore.

Or maybe not so strange...

Google ---> acquisition by Microsoft ---> further existance of spyware removal tools.

I've had Google Toolbar on my systems for about 6 months and Ad Aware has never balked.

before the installation u have two options,  install with or without advanced features. if u choose to install it without advanced features(which is what i did), according to google, "you will not have access to advanced functionality. However, no information about the sites you visit will be communicated to Google."

It could've been more than 6 months; I wasn't sure about the date.  But I'm not kidding... That was a computer I made and pre-installed for them, and I told them they'd get infinite support from me unless they install programs like KaZaA.  They installed KaZaA, removed Norton Anti-Virus, and installed the whole McAfee suite, the Googlebar and some Outlook bar.  They ran into connection problems so I came over and --the nice person in me awoke-- uninstalled KaZaA, uninstalled portions of the McAfee suite, removed all viruses, downloaded and installed the then-current version of Ad-Aware (which listed the Googlebar among other things), and installed KaZaA Lite.

Now that I'm getting into this more deeply, that should've been around October/November last year... 9 to 10 months....

Seems they've advanced, then.  But I'd like to know how many people knew this....

I also heard that the google toolbar was spyware, but it doesn't bring up any results when you check it on www.spychecker.com.

Maybe they have changed it ??
