find a no cd patch , like this one, hopefully from a reliable location.

http://www.gameburnworld.com/dl/gamefixes/dl_diablo2v1.05.0nocdfixedexe.htm

and of course scan it for viruses :-)

losing the location of the cd , especially with 2 cds is very easy to do.  there have been some other issues with a very SLOW recognition of the name change of the disk inserted.

when you change cds, how quickly can you get the explorer to show the new name of the cd inserted?

could you preinsert the cd, prior to play wait a week or two and see if the thing works then?

if you tweak and turn off auto play stuff does that help?

do you have "shell hardware detection", "logical disk manager" and "removable disk"  services all turned on?

OK, so i am Guessing, but i try hard

probably not,  but at FRYS you can get the whole system works package for like 9$ after rebate junk.  that would get you ghost and the virus checker.  also  there is avs or avg or something, its a freeware virus checker.

search for virus here in the forum, sombody uses it. and its free and legal and all that other good stuff.
