| Do I really need to install anything to *watch* DVD's? It is not a burner. It came with CyberLink PowerDVD which I have not installed as of yet. Comments please.

| PowerDVD is very useful in my opinion if you have the processing power to go with it. Some of the earliest software DVD players were resource intensive and hardware decoder cards for DVDs were all of the rage (I remember a brand name like 'Hollywood' for some reason in this topic).
CPU and graphics processing power has increased substantially since the first generation DVD drives came out and as a result, software-based players run quite fine providing you have the 'horsepower under the hood' (CPU, video card, RAM).

| XP PRO, Intel P4 2.40b Ghz, 1024 MB PC2700(DDR 333) RAM, ASUS P4S8X, WD SATA 36.7 GB 5.2ms access time, 64MB ATI 7500 (Radeon), Audigy 2 with 10 speaker surround sound and double woofer setup. DVD-ROM 16x. Will this make the PowerDVD hum or what? LOL

| ROFL There was no set up there canadadude. I really did not have a clue if the DVD would play better with or without the PowerDVD. And is there a better program for that?

| For me I like the idea of a purpose-dedicated application vice trying to adapt WMP to the purpose. IMO, PowerDVD is the best but you well know how this Forum works: give an opinion and then all of the other opinions pop out of the woodwork (but that's what makes it kind of fun around here!).
WinDVD is another software-based player but I believe it is not as 'popular'.
