| I have a folder in my programmes in windows explorer called (InstallShield Installation Information) it has a lot of other folders in it, which is fairly big in size, is this folder ok to be sent to the bin, or is it needed for anything, i'm presuming its installation history of my programmes, thanx in advance for any help....

| Hey, evil one with forked tail,
I had a whole slew of stuff in there, too, and examination revealed that it was exactly what the folder name suggests: it was full of files left over from various InstallShield Installations. I emptied it. And nothing bad happened at all. I cleaned it out two months ago. Something new put some files there recently, and I dumped those, too. No probs.
BUT ... I may not have UNinstalled anything yet whose installation record was in there, and it's conceivable that the uninstallation executable for some program calls information that's in that folder.
Frankly, I don't much care. I use the uninstall.exe in a folder if there is one, and then I scan the reg with my reg cleaners, and I usually get everything, I think, except for mebbe a few stray dlls left over, but so what?
If you KNOW of a small program that uses InstallShield, you could try a scientific experiment (and report the results here!): move everything out of the big III folder to a temporary storage folder, then install the InstallShield prog, then delete its files from the III folder, and then uninstall the prog. If the uninstallation complains, do a manual uninstallation, then put everything back into III that you think you might ever need for an uninstall, and then scan the reg for leftovers of the prog you manually uninstalled.
If the uninstall doesn't complain, dump the whole shooting match of files from the temp storage folder and the III folder.
Too much for science? I understand. Mebbe next time I catch an InstallShield install, I'll try it.
