| I'm trying to uninstall a game from my Add\Remove programs. It says this when I try to:
"An installation support file could not be found".
"The system cannot find the file specfied".
Any ideas? |

The easiest way I can think of would be to reinstall the prog from cd or the exe and try to uninstall it again. It should work. (At least it does for me)
Let us know if that works. If not we can move to more aggressive tactics.

| Thanks Wonk.
Unfortunately I don't have a disc for the game and when I go to reinstall it, it says a bunch of giberish and this:
"Abnormal Termination".
"Select retry for an environment dump".
And when I go to attempt to try to play it from the .exe to see if that would work it says this:
jk2sp.exe- Unabel To Locate Component
"This application has failed to start because OpenAl32.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem"
Hope that's enough info to help figuring this out.

| This one is going to be real fun.
Ok....well now I know that we are dealing with Jedi Knight 2, lets recap:
You have JK2 installed on your machine. It will not work correctly so you want to uninstall it. You went to Add/Remove Programs and it will not uninstall. (Correct me if this is inaccurate)
You lost me however when you said that you don't have the disc but you reinstalled it? Do you have a demo/downloaded version?
Did you by chance already run the Uninstall utility attached to that game and it only left the entry in Add/Remove programs?
One other thing you can try, and I am banking on the fact that the OpenAl32.dll is only file missing, is copying the OpenAl32.dll from the Windows/system32 folder into the game folder for JK2. I would be curious to see if the process gets any further.
Good Luck!

| Okay Wonka or anyone else, I'll give a step by step of how I got to this point.
1. Uninstalled JK2 as well as PhotoExpress, also I cleaned out the registry of any leftovers of those 2 programs.
2. Had a problem with something else a couple days later, so I used system restore. It took me back to a time before I uninstalled those 2 programs. However while the programs came back, they were unusable.
3. Reinstalled PhotoExpress with original CD and was able to get rid of it officialy from Add or Remove Progroms.
4. The version I have of Jedi Knight was a Download, so I don't have the original disc. So I went to the files and found the installer, and tried to reinstall so I could unistall properly. No dice.
5. Out of frustration, I deleated all JK2 folders. Now in the Add or Remove menu JK2 is only 340 KB, so I know most of it is out of my system.
6. Went to th registry and tried to delete it like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Unfortunately it isn't there.
I guess my only option is to locate the same game file, DL'd it and the remove it from Add or Remove.
Any other options?

| So, if you've removed the installation directory and all registry occurrences of the installation the only remaining indication of the install is an entry in the Add/Remove programs section of Control Panel?
You could use Microsoft's TweakUI or another 'tweaker' program to remove this entry from the 'Add/Remove' list.

Correct that is the only info left, just in the Add or Remove programs list.
I have TweakUI and couldn't find anything about deleting info from add/remove. Could you run me through it? Thanks! |

| Overtaken by version chaos - my mistake here, zoxcv
It seems the 'latest' version of TweakUI doesn't do this as an earlier version did. Even the MS article mentions this technique and the one you have already exercised. See this:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310587
Here's another more detailed version of what you've likely already done in the registry to eliminate the problem - the only option right now is to double-check that your steps are complete. I'm going looking for the earlier version of TweakUI (I think it was the one meant for Win98 but I recall it worked fine on XP):
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314481
Like Arnold Schwarzenegger says in all of his movies, "I'll be back"!
