| hello!
I have 2 partitions, C and D.
on C I installed winXP prof, and a few hours ago I installed win98se onto D.
my problem now is that XP doesn't boot, I'm not even given an option to boot it, so my question is:
what can I do to boot XP? is there a way to correct the boot record? this is my boot.ini file at the moment:
[Boot Loader] timeout=30 default=C:\
[Operating Systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect C:\="Windows 98 Second Edition"
edit:
please people, I'm desperate |

| | If I were you, I'd first prepare for the really difficult by making a backup of everything you hold dear. Then I'd delete the "C:\="Windows 98 Second Edition" (and only that) from the end of that line in boot.ini. Then I'd reboot. But perhaps someone here has a better idea? |

| Windows 98 overwrote your master boot record. The correct way to do a dual boot is to install 98 first on the root of C:. Then install the XP operating system.
You may be able to fix this by starting a XP installation. Then cancel it at the first possible moment. On of the first thing that setup does is rewrite the MBR. Once you cancel the install, boot to XP and modify the boot.ini file to point the correct installations. I'm not sure about the above steps. Never tried to run 9x from another partition.

| Don't know what MS has to do with it. Just a matter of knowing the correct procedure before you jump into it. Good luck with the reinstallation.
