Here is a little reg hack that will ban ALL macromedia "Flash" self-installing webpage’s!

Of course if you really want to have macromedia spyware installed on your computer then you don’t want to do this!

Copy the following and paste it into a blank notepad… Save as… All files… and choose something like nonag.reg (I usually save these temp things to my desktop to find and delete easily)

Once done click and the file and answer yes, you do want to add it…

 -------Start Copy------->

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}]
"Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400

 <-------End Copy--------

I figured this trick out using spy ware blaster!

All you got to do is locate the CSLID that is a unique active x identifier for all those crappy things, make a new key in the ActiveX Compatibility reg key and name it the long string of numbers and letter you find (You must enclose the string in { } ).

Then click on the new key and create a new DWORD Value and name it Compatibility Flags then modify its value to 400.

400 basically says Absolutely NOT! To each and every webpage that has nothing but flash content that then forces your browser to download the installer…

Not anymore!

And here is the one to block Shockwave player auto installs!

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{166B1BCA-3F9C-11CF-8075-444553540000}]
"Compatibility Flags"=dword:00000400

Well kindofabuzz,

Considering that the Flash player can utilize your webcam and your microphone with the use of outside software that is run on other sites…

Then add the fact that Macromedia will NOT publicly acknowledge that the feature cannot be exploited, AND the fact that they chenaged their EULA and Privacy Policies to include a disclaimer saying in effect that THEY are not responsible for what other companies do with their products…

Hmpfh…

Sounds like spyware to me.

Dude… We are talking the internet here.

If it can be done, it will be done. Imagine if you will that someone creates a piece of software that exploits this feature.

Macromedia disclaims any responsibility for the actions (or exploitations) of other websites.

Now imagine some perv gets ahold of this and creates a website that is geared towards children… Or women… Etc.

The unsuspecting web surfer can be opening their lives up to even more exploitation, all without even knowing it!

I cannot for the life of me believe that I am the only one (or amongst the minority) who sees the absolute potential for serious violations of privacy with this feature.

I knew this would surface again...

(j/k)

BTW, when you right-click a Flash animation and select Settings, you can either allow or block the hosting site permission to use your webcam and/or mike.  But, there's an Advanced button... and when you click on it you get a page that doesn't or no longer exists.  I wonder if they can be caught on that.

I mean... if they can't catch Macromedia, then they couldn't have caught Napster either.
