Regshot - Have a windows interface change that you want to automate.  Use regshot to take a snapshot of the registry before making the change and a snapshot after making the change.  Regshot will compare both snapshot's and provide you with the list of registry changes that were made.   These changes can be incorporated into a .reg file for batch processing or can be scripted to make the change automatically

Cheers
Andy

(edited October 17, 2003: Nero Burning Rom 5.5.10.54)

BootMaster Partition Recovery --

Whenever a drive becomes inaccessible due to a power failure, bad cable, or anything else which causes it to be either unrecognized or labeled as "unallocated" by Windows, first check if it's not just the partition table that's corrupted.  This simple boot-floppy tool is capable of recovering bad partition boot sectors on the fly, and will even create a backup in case you run into this mess another time.  Highly recommended... but read the instructions (press "5" when it's booted to the floppy).

PepiMK Spybot Search & Destroy --

Kill that spyware.

MasterBooter --

Not the easiest but the best boot manager available; can create four primary partitions per disk as well (many filesystems supported).

Adobe Photoshop 6 --

Fast-starting image editing program with lots of features.

Adobe Photoshop 7 --

A little more features, but a bit slower than 6.

TMPGEnc --

To convert AVI to MPEG, and prepare files for VCD or SVCD.

Nero Burning Rom 5.5.10.54 --

One of the best burning applications and one of the better interfaces too.  Apparantly, Ahead Software are still issuing updates for previous versions of Nero Burning Rom; the latest update to the brilliant 5.5 series is 5.5.10.54... grab it while you can!

Roxio DirectCD --

(No link provided because it seems to be left out from Roxio 6)

While I think that Nero is a far superior CD burning program, Roxio's DirectCD features the BEST CD-recovery tool around. The early Roxio 5 releases already showed a big increase in this tool's functionality, and the updates made it a lot better. I created CD-RWs some four years ago which "went corrupt" not long after and I was unable to fix them with the then-current versions of DirectCD. But I didn't format them just in case, especially since the recovery program told me "this feature will be available in a future update"... and I got them fixed in the end.

On Windows 2000 and XP, it's OK to have both Easy CD Creator or DirectCD installed alongside Nero Burning Rom. I've had both on my system until I decided I no longer needed to recover CDs.

Norton Personal Firewall 2002 --

Good software-firewall, and lets you block/allow "From" fields of e-mails and block/allow "Referer" (a site may or may not check where you came from); plus, it comes with an "application scan" with which you can scan your hard drives for "Internet enabled applications" and set the rules beforehand, so you won't be annoyed with questions all the time about letting a program access the Internet.

Yahoo Messenger --

The best no-nonsense messenger if you disable IMVironments and Yahoo Insider; lets you login as "Invisible", and you can add (and use) custom status messages at will; no file transfer problems either.

Mozilla 1.4 --

The best alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser in all fields; supports tabbed browsing, AND you can disable this easily without interfering with the functionality of other features (unlike Opera 7.x).

Netscape 7.1 Base --

Netscape shares the same weird "numbering scheme" from AMD: it doesn't make sense.  I would've never advised 7.02 (or any older version for that matter), but I will recommend 7.1 as it's much faster and more stable than previous versions.  Netscape sold their code back in 1998 to Mozilla which then began its open source project, starting by re-writing the code.  Over the next few years, Netscape "used" the then-current Mozilla browser technology (Gecko) and added some features and gimmicks to it.  After the release of the excellent Mozilla 1.4, Netscape followed suit with 7.1.

Why "Base"?  I was never a sucker for built-in features such as e-mail clients and media players.

MetaProducts Offline Explorer Pro --

Download streaming media from RTSP and MMS servers.

Boilsoft RM Converter --

Convert RealMedia to AVI.

Sonic Foundry SoundForge 6.0 --

One of the best and fastest music editing and recording applications, supporting ripping from CD, direct recording from an external source (DC adjust), and exporting to many different formats.

WinRAR --

Great zipping/unzipping utility; can read many different formats and is capable of exporting to .RAR and .ZIP.

Microsoft Frontpage --

Use this to find out the color of something, as the "color picker" inside this program allows you to pick OUTSIDE the program; great if you want to know which color the tables on TweakXP.com are in.

Karen's Power Tools / Directory Printer --

Print (or export to a text file) all the contents of a folder and its subfolders; you control which information you want to have.

Karen's Power Tools / Autorun.inf Editor --

Creates the files needed to make autorun CD's; supports your own icon.

VIA 4in1 and nForce2 Unified Driver --

Motherboard chipset drivers that cure the most of your BSODs.
