I am currently running DOS 6.22, Windows 98 SE, and Windows XP Pro on a single 40GB hard drive, using a third-party software (System Commnader 7) as boot manager.  I have read somwwhere recently that it is possible to multiboot between the three using Windows XP Pro's boot manager, provided you load first DOS, then Windows 98, and Windows XP Pro last, and creating sepatate partitions for the first two just before installing each one (example: create a 500MB DOS partition, then install DOS to it, then create another FAT32 partition and install Windows 98 SE to it).  Can anyone give me more info on it, whether this is indeed possible, and if so details and also if anyone has done this and how it's working out if you've done this successfully.

I've done this a few times but DOS and 98 need to be on the same partition.  Also, the 98 install must be on FAT16.

Install DOS.  Back up your DOS directory and startup files to another location on your drive.  Then install 98.  Once 98 is installed copy your DOS directory back to the original location.  Then edit your MSDOS.SYS file and make the following line is there:  BootMenu=1  Next install XP into a different partition.  The XP boot loader will configure the 98/XP dual boot.  To boot to DOS, choose 98 then choose 'previous version of DOS' from the menu.

DOS 6.22 and W98se can both be installed on FAT32 without problems.

The rest of your explanation I do agree on though

Disagree, Zoeperman
DOS 6.22 doesn't know how to read a FAT32 partition.  If you boot to a DOS boot disk to a FAT32 drive, it can't even read the drive.

I fully have to agree with Rob on this. DOS 6.22 cannot handle FAT32. Of course the DOS version used with Windows (DOS 7) can handle FAT32 but that is a different subject.

For this reason it would be better to leave the situation as it is, since you would be restricted to using a 2 GB partition at the most for the combined DOS/Win98 partition. Or you can create a FAT16 partition, install DOS and then install Windows on a separate FAT32 partition, using the FAT16 as the bootpartition. That way you could combine both systems. But frankly, I don't see the big advantage of this. Why would you want to change the present situation at all?
