| Richie - I've been using the Free version for a long time. In your opinion is it worth getting the paid version? I also use KAV and Spyware Blaster and have never had any virus or spyware problems in the past on any systems.

| The free version of SAS is basically a stand-alone scanner and does not include real-time protection. The Pro version offers real-time blocking of potentially harmful software and registry protection against browser hijacking.
SAS Free and Professional Comparison
I'm more inclined to recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which IMO is more effective. The Protection Module uses advanced heuristic scanning technology to monitor your system and provides real-time protection which can be activated with a key for a few dollars less. I also know how hard the developers work to keep it updated to combat the newest threats (although SAS has been releasing almost daily updates too).
When compared to other security tools like Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware, the advantage of MBAM is that it is able to detect a wide spectrum of threats including active rootkits. Scanning is performed quickly while other tools can take hours. MBAM detects malware through the following means:
MD5
Unique strings, semi polymorphic strings
Unique GUID linked dlls
Unique load point to file
Unique heuristics (IPH)
Unique file names combined with FP killing routines
Other means not discussed in public to safeguard the program from malware writers.
I use a combination of MBAM and Spyware Terminator (without the option to install Web Security Guard) for real-time monitoring along with Nod32 but still have SAS for on demand scanning.
