I have been having trouble with internet explorer on my HP 520N. I run Comcast cable as my internet conection. For some reason IE is making my cpu spike to 100% when ever I move my mouse on the screen..

I tried netscape and so far I like it. The cpu usage went away. But I watch alot of videos online of cycles and other stuff but hate the netscape download manager. I liked the way IE would launch the WMPlayer when you clicked an AVI or MPEG...Netscape makes you download it then opens it...YUKy..

I tried to install IE5.5 but it won't because it detects a newer version of IE. I have 6 now.

I tried add/remove programs but there is nothing there and there is nothing in start/programs to remove IE either?

Anyone have any idea how to remove and do a fresh install of IE for XP HOME EDDITION?

Thanks for your help..

Spankey..

There's a way to let Windows think it's not installed (see here - Method 2), but the Internet Explorer files will still be on your system.  This information is given out by Microsoft with the intention to re-install Internet Explorer 6 and/or Outlook Express 6 in case it's no longer functioning properly, but I've never tried installing another version instead.

Hi spankey,

Have you tried scanning with Ad-aware and Spybot yet ? If not I would try that first. I would only downgrade as a last resort..but that's just me.

Cheers

I'm running ahead of facts here maybe, but the thing slowing down "your Internet Explorer experience" might be related to the Alternative User Input feature of the Office XP package.  The following Microsoft Knowledge Base article explains the problem:

But check Bulldog's message first...
