Since you indicate songs/sounds play correctly from the computer is it entirely possible that the files shown on YouTube have the sound coded as monaural rather than stereo?? Have you checked other Web sites with sound for correct playing? Try some of the songs on http://www.harrythecat.com/index3.php.

Has this always been a problem? Since it could just be a problem with the flash plugin. Does this happen on all browsers? (If you have more than one)

You can test this out by uninstalling the current plug-in using the uninstaller found here. Then install the latest version of flash found here.

You cold take it a step further if the above doesn't work by downloading an older version of flash, but that usually means you can't view flash content on websites that require the newest version of the plug-in.

Please note:
Installing older versions of Adobe Flash Player for diagnostic purposes is fine but definitely should not be left running on your pc after you've finished.
Be aware that all older versions of Adobe Flash Player have critical vulnerabilities that could allow an attacker who successfully exploits these vulnerabilities to take control of your system.
A malicious SWF file must be loaded in Flash Player by the user for an attacker to exploit these vulnerabilities.
Users are recommended to keep Adobe Flash Player bang up to date with the latest version at all times.

Try downloading/installing the K-Lite Codec Pack see if that helps.
[ Version 4.2.5 Full | 14.2 MB | October 20th 2008 ]
