Half-Life would probably run pretty good on that.  The game is 3-4 years old but still one of the most played games.  There are thousands of modifications for it.

Thats slim information for your laptop. You might get more realistic replies with better information about the machine. Speed, Memory, how old it is etc. Older machines (like my two laptops) have rather severe smear/ghosting when playing games. Also, what type of games are you interested in?

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
3gb Ram
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
HP w2207 Monitor
CD/DVD SuperMulti drive (Lightscribe)
HD DVD ROM
Realtek ALC 888S
Nvidia 8800 GT OC 512mb
Cuppa JFG right by the monitor

Try Thief, or Thief II.  I've run both on a laptop with 8MB video without problems.  If you like Adventure games and puzzle solving you won't find better than Grim Fandango.  Still one of my favorite games ever.

Also theres a hacking emulation/roleplaying game called Uplink that is pretty cool and requires little graphics prowess at all.
