Download/unzip xp_fileassoc.bat thats attached below.
Double click on the unzipped xp_fileassoc.bat to restore XP file associations back to default.
Restart your pc when you've done.

Download\unzip to your desktop FixPolicies.exe,a self-extracting ZIP archive, which is attached to the bottom of this post.
Double-click FixPolicies.exe.
Click the "Install" button on the bottom toolbar of the box that will open.
The program will create a new Folder called FixPolicies.
Double-click to Open the new Folder, and then double-click the file Fix_Policies.cmd
A black box will briefly appear and then close.
You can ignore any warnings or error messages.
You can delete the download and the folder it creates.

If still no joy i suggest you do the following:
Download Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.2 to your desktop:
Double click on HJTInstall.exe,it will prompt you to extract hijackthis.exe to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
When the install is complete,HijackThis will automatically launch.
When the license agreement appears, select "I Accept" and then click on the "Do a system scan only" button.
When the scan is complete, click on the "Save Log" button, then save it to your desktop.
Copy and paste the entire contents of that log into a new topic in the HijackThis Logs forum, not here.

What exactly will these do? I imagine that the Association file will re-associate Windows with Font files, butt I don't think that's the problem. I never opened fonts with anything else.

Fix_Policies, what exactly will that do?

A new issue has happened. Since I tried to do the font reinstall, this system font is taking up much of the other fonts.
