i have had two instances (not continuous) of the above during shut-down after which i had to shut down manually, however, each time, after the following restart, the shut down was normal indicating these were random events. any suggestions? |

| That error is generally associated with drivers. Update your audio & video drivers to the latest release (get the drivers from the OEM websites, not from Windows Update) and check for a bios flash. Also look in msconfig and see if anything is loading with your system that you are not familiar with.
You can also do the following:
1) Start - Run - Regedit
Navigate to the following Registry key:
HKEY CURRENT USER\Control Panel\Desktop
Double click on the AutoEndTasks entry and replace the 0 with a 1 in the Value data text box
For the next two, if the dword value indicated does not exist, create it:
Double click on the WaitToKillAppTimeout entry in the right pane and change the Value data to 2000
Double click on the HungAppTimeout entry in the right pane and change the Value data to 1000
Reboot
2) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control
Right-click on WaitToKillServiceTimeout and change it to 2000

| | Thanks Allan, my registry keys were already set to the values you prescribed, my drivers are updated--been having some trouble updating my BIOS through ASUS update utility installed on my computer. The server invariably times out after downloading 99% of the update (as seen from the statrus bar). As i said...had 2 instances which haven't repeated themselves, but i am troubled. |
