| | Hello, Ok...I work for a major computer services business. Approx. 85% of the computers in our company is Custom Built. They do not have any model numbers or serial numbers that identify each monitor/computer package. We also have a blue Asset sticker on each of the monitors and computers. But this asset sticker is not associated with a model or serial #. My question is:
Is there a software program that can be ran across the network and create a particular model # based on each of the different motherboards, for example: ASUS A8N32-SLI ............. will have this Model #: LOG8991A3
ASUS A8N5X .................... will have this Model #: LOG8621Q3
ASUS A8N-E ..................... will have this Model #: LOG8496T3
ASUS A8N-VM .................. will have this Model #: LOG8095U3
Intel DP965LT .................. will have this Model #: LOG7263D3
Intel DQ963FX .................. will have this Model #: LOG7198H3 Then generate for each model number a unique Serial # for each of the computers with that particular Model #.... Is there a way to do this automatically??? If there is no way to have it update the pc with this information automatically, then Is there a way to generate the Model / Serial numbers automatically? If so, how / where can I enter this information in Windows / BIOS or wherever and get it to keep those model numbers and serial numbers so that when I run Spiceworks...Spiceworks will generate the reports with the new and correct model and serial numbers???? I know that this is probably very confusing but any help would be appreciated very much. Thanks, |

| All the 'brand' computers I've worked with had a small program that gave some information such as Dell's Service Tag and Express Service Code. I'd think embedding Serial Numbers in every computer would otherwise be nigh impossible due to the changeability of parts within the computer. One could drop an oeminfo.ini file in C:\Windows that would contain some data about the company and computer. Could also have a company logo, both would show when right-clicking My Computer and Properties.

| | Hello and thank you for your help. I created a file called OEMINFO.ini and placed it in
the c:\windows\system32 folder along with an OEMLOGO.bmp file. The good news is it does work…perfectly, but it only shows 2 lines:
1) the Manufacturer and
2) the Model What information is to be in the model field??? Is it supposed to be the Model # or something else??? If it is the actual Model #...is there a way to enter a Serial #??? I have attached a .bmp image of the System Properties Information showing the information that I am referring to. Could you or someone else please explain in further detail how to finish and
complete what I am trying to do in reference to entering custom made Model and Serial #’s into Custom Built PCs??? Thank you Bobby
