Hey guys, I'm having a weird problem with my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop that seems to have started a few days ago, though I cannot recall changing any settings or adding new hardware that might've caused it. Here's what happens: Every couple of minutes the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon pops up on my systray and disappears before I can click on it. When this happens I have neither plugged in nor disconnected any hardware--it simply does it at random. I wouldn't have even noticed it if it weren't for the 'ding' that I hear (like when you plug in a USB device) whenever it pops up. Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

Go to the Dell website and make sure you have the newest drivers installed.
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1525&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid=

I'm not positive that this will fix your problem, but it's as good a place to start as any. Plus, it's always a good thing to have the latest drivers installed.

Check out the Restoring the HotPlug Manger section of http://windowssecrets.com/2007/04/05/01-How-to-prevent-and-remove-phantom-devices.

See if it might apply to your situation.

Have you thought about using CCLeaner? Or posting a HiJackThis Log?
