If possible, don't use Microsoft Windows. Buy a Macintosh or use Linux. If you must use Windows, set up Automatic Update so that you automatically receive security patches. And delete the files "command.com" and "cmd.exe."

This is a quote from Bruce Schneier's, "Who says safe computing must remain a pipedream?" http://www.schneier.com/essay-078.html Is this really a good idea? (The deleting of the files...not the Macintosh or Linux comment.)

Well for a start you should NOT delete the above files, they're both important files used by the Windows NT, 2000, and XP operating systems.

CMD.EXE or COMMAND.COM:

Note:
In certain situations, some malware components can camouflage themselves as cmd.exe or command.exe but thats a different story.

That's what I was thinking. However, I thought I would ask somebody who knew, for sure. So he's referring to viruses named cmd.exe and command.com?
