| | This might be a noob question, but these program vulnerabilities that might be used to remotely access your computer...are they able to do so if you have all your remote access services disabled? |

| The simple answer is 'yes' they can. They can re-activate your disabled services, enable P2P, enable IRC (even though you didn't know you even had it) can create an encrypted "backdoor" for who-knows-what, can take complete control of your computer, or anything else you can think of or may not think of.
An attacker can do anything to your computer he or she wishes, even though you think you're being security-conscience. All it takes anymore is just visiting a malicious website, and you're infected. You don't even have to download anything or follow any links to get infected. And it's easier than you think to get infected with who knows what.
It's saddening to know that there's people out there on the net solely for the purpose of luring and infecting people's computers just to make money with ads, products, or spamming for a product.
The internet is (in my opinion) the most hostile place in the world you can visit, unless you know where the "safe zones" are. Those are high-traffic commercial websites with years under their belt, and a good product or service to offer either for free or compensation.

| | Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, that's what I expected. I've really become very internet security conscience lately. I guess better late than never. I've also tried to make my family and friends more conscience of it. Like you said, in the matter of moments, things can go very sour for you. |

If you're a frequent visitor to this forum, I'm sure you've seen all of the HijackThis logs that members have posted asking for help because some of their computers have become seriously infected. Case & point.
