Recently, I've had some major hard drive issues with the original hard drive that came with it. So, I just decided to purchase a new hd which is a 250gb seagate ide ultra ata/dma 100.

My question is, will the motherboard and the BIOS in my pavilion a705w support 48-bit logical block addressing which enables the computer to fully utilize the 250 capacity of the new hard drive.

Thanks!

You failed to say what the size of the original HDD is but if over 137GB then Yes, it supports 48-bit LBA.

However, looking at a Web page shows it came with a 40GB HDD so the question still remains.

Might check with HP for a BIOS update.

You can get some manuals from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&cc=us&product=435558

Yes, the original hard drive was a 40GB Seagate.

I checked HP's website, and located the model of my computer and to no avail, there is no BIOS update affecting hard drive capacites and 48 bit LBA. So, I am not completely sure if the motherboard will support a 160 GB hard drive which I have changed to.

HP wrote me an email saying that don't recommend upgrading a hard disk over 4 times the original size of the corrupt hard drive which is 160 GB. So..I just decided on a 160 GB and it should be here tomorrow..

Any other help would be much appreciated!
