| | Here's the deal...my mobo went out on me earlier this year. The mobo that I got to replace it is a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R. My old mobo topped out the processor at 1066Mhz and the memory at 667Mhz. Obviously, my new mobo can handle much more than that. I was thinking about upgrading my memory, and wasn't sure about what I should get. Is there a processor speed/memory speed ratio that I should go by? My processor is the E6600 with a 1066Mhz FSB. I understand that my processor is kinda archaic, but I don't have the money right now to upgrade both. And I figured that better memory with my current processor would help me out more than a better processor with my current memory. Any assistance would be appreciated. |

| Hi CarolinaFaithful
I would go with the Corsair Dual Channel XMS2 PC8500 DDR2 1066MHz Memory (your last choice). The spec.'s on the MOBO & Processor you listed both have a 1066Mhz FSB.
What operating system are you running?

| | I had read that list before I posted . It seemed a rather short list considering all the memory that's out there. They have two 2Gb sticks listed, but they are both 667Mhz. My neighbor found out the hard way that you cannot do a fresh install of XP with 4GBs. In order to install, you've got to take out one of the sticks, install, then put the stick back in. They had no problem putting 4GBs in their older computer that already had XP installed. Thank you for your time, effort, and knowledge, Chilly. Do you have any suggestions as to what brand delivers the best value? |

Sorry, no I don't. I would get two matched sticks of RAM. Their latencies are supposed to be very close to the same.
Shopping around can be very confusing.
