wad up doc, I am a beginner to the world of winXp and I have a question for all of yall. I am trying to get the verizon 1XRTT express network cdma modem to work with a VPN to my works server. I can't even make the VPN client work through a dial up account with AOL. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The server at work must be run the Remote Access Service and you must have the appropriate ports opened on your firewall to allow the VPN protocol to go through. Suggest talking with your network admin.

I have spoken with network admin. also spoke with tech services at verizon. don't think the network admin knows much about XP. He thinks that its a setting on my computer(probably is). Verizon says nothing in their software could stop a vpn from functioning. Tried to get vpn to work through an existing landline and still no luck. I have done a few regedit tweaks and was wondering if they might be the problem? Also what are XP's default firewall settings? I have never modified them but they may be the problem. Any suggestions ?

Doubt very much if this is on your end or Verizons.
Just turn off the XP firewall while you're playing with this.
What error message do you receive when you attempt to dial in?
Does your admin have ports 1701 (L2TP) and 1723 (PPTP) open on the firewall or router? Does your user account have dialin permissions? Is the RAS server configured for inbound connections? How is IP configured on the RAS server? If configured to obtain from DHCP does the admin have the DCHP server on the RAS server or the relay agent installed?
