I'm using an Acer Aspire 4710G and of recent, the dvd-drive doesn't work.

The light doesn't turn on when I start the labtop and when I attempt to eject it (both with the button and through the eject button when you right click inside my computer), nothing happens.

There was one time when I repeatedly pressed the button, the dvd-rom opened.. But after it closed, the old problem just continued?
Any idea what the problem is and how I can fix it? I'm in dire need to use it.

Also:
1) Under properties, the device is working properly
2) When I double-click on the H: Drive (DVD-rom), it says 'application not found'
3) Using Vista Home Premium
4) If I attempt to update drivers, they tell me it's already updated.

Is the computer still in Warranty? If so, get the maker involved. If not, it's my experience you need to replace the drive.

I usually get Notebook parts from http://www.priorityelectronics.com but they show no replacement optical drives for the Acer Aspire.

Hmmm.. that could be a problem....

Not quite sure when I bought it.. It was sometime this time last year... But as I'm out of the country, I still need the invoice and International Travel Warranty only last one year...

Anyway, could you enlighten me as to how the thing could have screwed up? If I do get a replacement, I'd like to prevent the same problem from happening again..
