| I wrote an article back in 2004 on another forum, about this topic. These are the steps to a "one click restart or shutdown" on XP. It works, as well, on Vista.
Hi all. Here's an XP trick for all you "propellerheads" out there that'll restart your machine or shut it down with just one click. No more clicking on Start...turn off computer...turn off (you get the idea here)
Just right-click on your desktop and select New-->shortcut. The "create shortcut" window will automatically popup. In the dialog box where it asks to type the location of the item, paste this text in the box... SHUTDOWN -s -t 01 and click OK or Next, name it Shutdown, and click OK, and that'll be the shortcut to shutdown your machine. Paste this in the box in another new shortcut window... SHUTDOWN -r -t 01 click OK or Next, name it Restart, OK, and that'll be the shortcut to restart your machine.
You can then right-click it and select Properties and change it's icon to whatever you choose. The Windows\System32\Shell32.dll has some good icons to choose from.
Now, you can leave the shortcuts on your desktop, OR you can right-click-drag them to your quicklaunch bar, drop them there and select "move".
Tah-Dah! You're all set.
Disclaimer: Not assuming liability for your machine to meltdown causing the computer desk to catch fire which leads to the overhead sprinklers to spray water all over the computer which is still attached to a power source which leads to a heart stopping electrical shock thus ruining a perfect day!
