| I'm trying to get my laptop and desktop to communicate occasionally, and I've hit a bit of a snag. I decided not to go to the trouble of setting up a hub, just got a cat-5 crossover cable, tried it tonight.
I was able to get them talking, but it seemed like the transfer rate was crapped out. (it took well over an hour and a half to do a 700 meg file, and I had a network "trouble" icon in the taskbar on the master pc the whole way. ) Basiclly it was telling me that the NIC wasn't able to make a good connection, and wanted to hunt for a new ip address.
Can anyone tell me (or point me toward a tutorial) for the best way to keep the two of them working together faster/better
The specs: desktop: hp pavilion a305, gig ram, many gigs on added HD.
Laptop: toshiba satellite, IIRC about half a gig of ram, 27 gig hd..
and I know I'm missing tons of other specs, but humor me, LOL.
Thanks,
J |

| I would try to set a static IP on your network connections and see if that helps since your not using a router or other DHCP server there.
