Hi Geniuses:
I downloaded a file with beautiful Vista Icons (lot of them), I do not want to go through changing each individual icon of XP. The Vista icons are in the format of "Icon x.ico", where x is from 1 to 150, e.g. 'Icon 87.ico'
I am avoiding Themes to keep my PC as lean as possible. So please help me how replace all of the XP icons with the Vista icons and of course preferably using a freeware tool. Kindly do not just name the tool without guidance of its usage, as i have downloaded some and got frustrated.........It will also be great if you can advice how to restore my default icons of XP (how to save on the side or where to download them from).
Finally if you can tell me that by changing just the icons, if there will be any extra memory usage (i think not) but ur view will carry more weight.
Looking forward for your suggestions.

| I've done similar some time back but found it was not easy to do as you wish. Part of the problem has been icons are stored in different ways and depends upon how a program was written. I've seen the .ico file/s as part of the Folder for the program/s, embedded in the .exe file/s and in .dll files stored either in the programs' Folder or copied to a subFolder in Windows. I've created icon catalogs/libraries and used something like IconJack to extract icons into the library then right-clicked each shortcut and the Change Icon button, pointed to the file holding the new icon to be used. But the key is that each shortcut has to be changed individually, one at a time. Haven't found a way around that.

| Hi Berton:
Thanks for the reply, even though looking at where technology is going and especially the icons are numbered I thought we could at least get the basic Icons covered . Well could it be possible to implement a theme without wall paper, with just the icons.....we will get the basic icons (folders, txt/mp3/avi files, My Computer/My Network icons etc. ).
How about using a batch file with something like this for each particular icon (index=?)
[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll
IconIndex=20
Regards;
