Has anyone had any success with data transfer from an older Os, say Win95/98 to XP Pro? Were you able to use a serial cable to perform this?

You might have to elaborate a bit further MP...

Do you mean from 'one machine to another' via a serial cable (example: laptop to desktop) in a form of temporary but local networking?

Are you talking about settings and files or actual apps? I have used the settings and files transfer wizard with quite a bit of success. If you are just doing settings you will be able to probably get them on a floppy. However, larger thing are better done over some sort of network.
