hello
recently i re-installed  my OS on a new harddrive. everybody knows when this happens you are going to have to reinstall all the software you had before, except the stuff you never used.
one of my most used pieces of software was my desktop themes.when i change to a theme now, part of the theme does not change.it is the window styles and fonts. the little windows on the taskbar  or the start menu button itself would become rounded instead of square edged. the fonts would change colors as well as styles. it would integrate into eveything that would be active on the desktop programs visual styles changed as well.
this was the best part of the theme that changed. no more plain looking the same computer.
what can be done?

It was painful to read your post because of sentence structure and punctuation, but if I understand correctly, you're having troubles with your styles and themes.

First, do you have the correct version of the uxtheme patch for your version of XP? Not just any version will do.

Secondly, are the themes and styles you are downloading, supposed to change the fonts and colors and such? I say this because I have downloaded some styles and themes only to realize that the fonts don't change (you had to do that manually) and the taskbar's running programs did not change shape either. Just because the preview from the website shows different fonts and colors that differ from "default", doesn't necessarily mean you will have the same results.

hi sorry about that,
well you got it right. since im just upgrade my win xp pro. to the current upgrade is build now win xp pro sp3 v.3244. before this upgrade, as in last week the fonts changed the window styles changed. the strat menu button completely changed to a total differnt button entirely. task bar buttons which you use to move thru applications changed entirly as well they would be rounded off not square edged. stuff like that. now i still get sounds, some color changes, but the rest no different then it was before i picked different theme other then what comes with the win xp. i am using [Multi-Patch uxtheme for XP and .NET ver. 1.0]
hopefully this is a little easier to understand.

Yes, thank you.

One point to mention here, is that you have installed the latest servicepack (XP SP3) and it may have changed those particular system files that the uxtheme had originally modified to support any non-Microsoft themes. This is the main reason I won't install SP1 for Vista just yet. I have my uxtheme patched on my laptop through Vista Glazz. Installing SP1 will change the system files back to default and the custom themes I'm currently using, will no longer work. That is, until an update for the program becomes available.

My advice is to search carefully, for a program that will successfully patch SP3 and let you use your custom themes again. I have not seen it yet, but I would bet that it won't be long before it's available.

hi again,
after thinking about what you had sasid before about the proper version of uxtheme I realized just exactly what you are saying. although im not fully integrated in my brain with win xp i do have some backgorund understanding of the OS.

I want to cry, i really do, i did just as you had said i looked really really far and wide no one has prepared a patch that will function in the SP3 enviroment. i have so many great themes that turn my pc into a really nice machine to work and play at. when i say the standerd desktop that is Windows can depress even the most imanginative mind after a period of time. i too have vista glass tweaked for XP and black and several of the other themes that some guy on a robo fest made.
well hmm i appriciate the help once again. hopefully it will be released soon. i decided to rebulid my crashed OS piece by piece since it doesnt have the sp3 in it . See it died on me and the repair function would'nt work and i had 2/3 material on the HD that i could not lose. so i got a new HD and thats how im here, terrible sentance structure, typos and all.
take it easy

The following patched version of uxtheme.dll works just fine with XP SP3.
Download/unzip the files attached below to your desktop.
Replace your current version of uxtheme.dll with the version you just downloaded using 'Replacer'.

Sounds like you may have a malware issue.

Download Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.2 to your desktop:
Double click on HJTInstall.exe,it will prompt you to extract hijackthis.exe to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
When the install is complete,HijackThis will automatically launch.
When the license agreement appears, select "I Accept" and then click on the "Do a system scan only" button.
When the scan is complete, click on the "Save Log" button, then save it to your desktop.
Copy and paste the entire contents of that log into a new topic in the HijackThis Logs forum, not here.
