I read on the Adobe site that Photoshop 7 was not Vista compliant, but I thought I would give it a try anyway.  It installed just fine, and seems to work perfectly as far as I can see so far.  So this has motivated me to try some of my other older software.

My question is, what will happen if some software is truly not Vista compliant?  Will Vista give me an alert when I try to install it, or will it install and not function correctly? or ???

Thanks

The alert could be either or both. If the software installs okay you may have to right-click the icon and Properties, in Compatibility tab choose a previous version of Windows.

I have been using Photoshop 7 with Vista Home Premium for over a year with no problems at all. I had been using Photoshop Elements 4 which gave me a "message" when I started the program. It did however seem to run ok. I had an old Photoshop 7 that I had not used in several years. It has been providing all my simple needs (heck Irfanview pretty much does that for my needs). I had lost/discarded the manual for 7 and found a couple of things on the internet to get me going again.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
3gb Ram
Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
HP w2207 Monitor
CD/DVD SuperMulti drive (Lightscribe)
HD DVD ROM
Realtek ALC 888S
Nvidia 8800 GT OC 512mb
Cuppa JFG right by the monitor

Since there is a compatibility mode, why has there been such a fuss over old software that does not run in Vista?

The key will always be whether the older programs will even install in Vista. We've always had to deal with compatibility when new Operating Systems come out.
