MF1462,

Start>Run is not accessible in that configuration (booting to a Linux CD). Unless your Boot CD allows for a command-style prompt where you can directly access files on the C: and D: drive and install them within that Boot Drive, that is the only way you're going to be able to migrate the good file to where the bad one now resides.  You do not need to find a DOS/command prompt within the Windows installation to do this.

If you now have Internet access, go to a Google search and type in a query for 'Windows 98 Boot Diskette' and look for the files to be placed on a diskette.  Download them and copy them onto a blank diskette and then boot to that diskette, not your LINUX CD.

Then you can use the instructions I provided in your other post for the same problem!

You need to create teh system files on the boot floppy.  You can go to any windows pc and createa boot floppy, then put the other files on the same disk.

Can't you just boot to your Windows XP cd and start the recovery console?
