Hello, I am new to the forum and I have a question that is driving me crazy...

I was wondering if there is a way to create 2 separate users in vista that have different startup settings. I want to create one general user with all of vista's bells & whistles for general activity like web surfing, word processing, etc., and one user that is very stripped down without any non-critical startup processes (programs) running and all of the fancy stuff like aero turned off so I can have the most processing power dedicated to my audio software. Is this possible? As of now I have 2 Administrator accounts set up and whatever startup processes I disable under one user account, Vista disables the same processes in the other account. What gives?

I appreciate any help you can give me.  Thanks,

Alex.

It helps mightily to know which of the 4 versions of Vista you have, Vista Home Basic, Vista Home Premium, Vista Business or Vista Ultimate. There's some things that can be done in two versions that can't be done in the other two.

I'm still not familiar with the difference of the 4 vista releases so I can not give any advise on how have 2 users with different start up setting. But I have an option inmind that you might want to consider.

You can try dual boot. One installation is for the bells and whistle of vista (your general settings) and the other installation is dedicated for a specific application. By doing this you can even strip up vista to gain more memory and processing power for you specific application.

If you strip down vista you definily gain a lot resources back, you can disable the process you dont use, unistall vista component you do not use or even unistall you anti-virus, anti-spyware and other protection (this application uses a lot of background resources) if your not connection to the internet (if your just using you specified application) or you know that your PC is safe for any attacks.
