| I have my hard drive partitioned with C and D. On D I keep all my documents, photos etc.
In the past (on xp) the start menu shortcuts to "My documents" could be changed to point towards the file on D, as did the "My music" etc.
For some reason those same shortcuts in the vista start menu have got corrupted. I have tried to change their properties to point to the relevant files on d, but for some reason, if I try and change their names, where they point etc, they all end up pointing to one folder...it's driving me mad. I must have done something initially, when asked to "copy all files" and now find myself in this position.
Is there anyway of restoring the default shortcuts in the vista menu and then making sure that things can point to the D folder correctly?
thanks, |

| What I'd do is similar to WinXP's My Documents, on the Start Menu right-click Documents and Properties. On the Location tab click the Move button and specify where to move it to.
If not changing that you could create new shortcuts and pin them to the Start menu.

| I've very much done that, but for some reason every time I change one shortcut , say the "my documents" link then the "my music" and "my pictures" also seem to change, so I end up with buttons that all point to the same folder what ever I do to the properties. The other thing is that on at any stage, all the shortcut titles of "my music, my documents, my pictures" all end up saying the same thing....so I can end up with three shortcuts all pointing to one folder all called the same.

| First backup the registry by doing the following.
Click on Start>Run,copy and paste the following bold text into the 'Open:' space, then press Ok.
regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg
It won't appear to be doing anything, that's normal.
Your mouse pointer may have an hour glass along side it for a minute or so.
Please be patient and continue when the hour glass disappears.
Copy and paste ALL the following text in the code box below into Notepad.
Click on Start/All Programs/Accessories/Notepad.
Click on File(in the menu at the top)>Save as../Save as Type: 'All Files' /File name: fix.reg to your desktop.
Then double click on the fix.reg file on your desktop and agree to merge the information into the registry, then restart your pc.
