Hi there ,
last week I had trouble with my Zone Alarm . I wasn't able to ping my server and couldn't find the answer .So COMODO was the one I installt instead .
My computer got so slow and froze after a few minutes . After reading some Articles about comodo ( only for powerful and newer computers ) , I decided to load ZA again,
and everything was fine . Must have been a hiccup in my old ZA .
Will use ZA in future like I did for years ,with only the last glitch where negative .

Rgds

There are other Firewall alternatives you can also try. See this dicussion thread:

What would you say is the best FREE firewall? I use the net just for browsing, forums, newsgroups...
I don't play on-line games or anything so i just need a simple free firewall to keep all the malware out.

I'm using ZA and i haven't had any problems. Is there something better?

Comparing Firewall Features
Personal Firewall Analysis & Scores

Of course these types of comparative testing results will vary depending on who is doing the testing, what they are testing for, what versions of the firewall software is being tested, etc. There are no universally predefined set of standards/criteria for testing and each test will yield different results. Thus, you need to look for detailed information about how the tests were conducted, the procedures used, and data results. Then you have to consider the features offered by each firewall, the amount of resources utilized and how it may affect system performance.

Zone Alarm is good. If your not having any problems with it, there's no sense in changing to something else.

I'll have to reinstall it, then. I check for spyware ever day (I use Ad-Aware, SpybotS&D and SpywareBlaster, all updated) and they still find something new every day. I also used VundoFix, to remove virtumonde.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, i just need an answer if the firewall is the problem or not.

Thanx

No single product is 100% foolproof and can detect and remove all threats at any given time. The security community is in a constant state of change as new malware infections appear. Each vendor has its own definition of what constitutes spyware and scanning your computer using different criteria will yield different results. The fact that each program has its own definition files means that some malware may be picked up by one that could be missed by another. Thus, a multi-layered defense using several anti-spyware products (including an effective firewall) to supplement your anti-virus combined with common sense and safe surfing habits provides the most complete protection.

i just need a simple free firewall to keep all the malware out.

A firewall will not keep all malware out.  A firewall serves two purposes.  One is to prevent incoming communications that you did not request from entering your computer.  Unfortunately a good deal of spyware arrives by your (unknown) request.

The second purpose of a firewall is to monitor what apps on computer are allowed to communicate out. Again, won't keep spyware out of your computer.

So if you want to keep malware out, you need to utilize other methods in addition to the firewall.  Since this is a firewall thread, it's probably not the best place to discuss those methods.

COMODO firewall is a solid firewall - only you will be getting a steady stream of alerts.
