| | I have a user who is currently trying to connect to his network via Dialup from his cottage..but Remote Desktop Connection is being quite quirky. Does anyone have any suggestions to better software? Or possibly a reason why it's not working...the machine is enabled for connections since I can do it from within the network. Thanks a bunch. |

| I don't know if that's worth investigating. One of the overwhelming factors here is the fact they're using dial-up. Remote connections need bandwidth a dial-up connection just can't supply. I would never suggest to anyone they could expect even near decent performance connecting via dial-up.
The only tips i could suggest would be to lower screen resolutions and visual effects. I'm not sure if you'll have much more success with a third party app but i'm sure some people could suggest a few. Search for Remote Access PC on google and i'm sure it will direct you to a few places.

| What kind of errors is he getting? When I try to use remote desktop on a slow upload connection, I get encryption errors for some reason. I found that if I disable all of the fancy colors and background images and limit the resolution to 640x480 that it works better for me. I am not sure how it would work on a dial up connection though. Since i was having problems with my cable connection since it limits my upload speed to about 128kb or ~12KB.
Another program that you could try using is RealVNC. It is another great, and free, program. Get it at www.realvnc.com
Hope this helps,
Steve

| | Yeah, I'm not too worried about the situation. I just needed to know why it's not working. The settings are all turned down.. it just says the Remote Computer is too busy accepting new connections...something along those lines. I'll try out that other program, might work better. |
