| The best tweak is to remove all but 512MB of memory from the computer. Next would be to upgrade to Win2000 Pro or WinXP.
There is a known issue with more that 512MB memory and Win9x/ME regardless of what the motherboard supports.

I've seen computers get slower using the suggestions. Limiting the amount of memory Windows uses kinda makes more that 512MB useless.

| Upgarde to Xp, the Vista Beta, or just wait until the final Vista comes out, or you could multiboot as Microsoft explains on its website.
Go to www.microsoft.com and search for "multiboot".
Lets put Vista on our iPods, Leopard on our cell phone, so that Stevie J and Billy G can be friends again. |

| the problem with win 98 occurs at the 1gig mark, i have used 768m on win98 computers for Ages, and still do, for a short while i ran 1gig, but when i went up to 1.5 and 2g it did not work, so a guy HERE in this forum, made me a special program that works wonders, it EATS memory :-)
let me see if i can get it uploaded somewhere, its really small http://www.boomspeed.com/leds/EATMEM.txt THIS is actually a ZIP file, as they dont allow zips to be uploaded, you MUST change the TXT to ZIP.
ok so right click that, save it to your disk, rename to EATMEM.ZIP unzipp it, and you will find 2 files, one is eatmem, and the other is the config.sys. the config.sys is not nessiarily to be used, as yours might be different, but it shows an example of how to use it exactally (cause that is how it works on my computer) the call to eatmem.sys must be made right at first, before the OS finds all that memory and freaks out :-)
so i put the eatmem, sys program right on the root of the win98 disk, along with the other OS startup sys items. so it would find it easily. just add one of them lines to eat up byte of memory, eat up 512 or eat up 1gig as shown in the config.sys file, as soon as you get to 1gig everything should start working just fine, if it dont eat up more, if that dont work, then you (or me) did somthing wrong. cause it works here. win98 rules! well as long as you only got 1 cpu :-)
