I'm not sure what is going on here. Seems as though the programs are caching into my "My Documents" folder...

I just bought a new dell Smile

And it came with Win Xp MCE 2005. it's awesome and i love it, but there is something peculiar going on as I run programs on it...

...it's placing folders into my My Documents (i.e., settings, etc etc). Of course, i did NOT install the applications to that folder, it just seems to have chosen this folder instead of placing the files where they go: C:/windows/programs

How can i correct this?

And would it be safe to just move the fodlers manually where they are supposed to go...the corresponding program file folder. ?

Please be very careful when u are working in the registry..as any miss might make the OS unusable..Chances are the windows default location has changed in the registry.

After you back up your registry, this is how you can change this default location.

1. Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
2. Find ProgramFilesDir whose default should be C:\Program Files
3. If it is different, change it to the above.

Remember you have to reboot for your changes to show.
